The story of twitch
Twitch is an online streaming platform used by a wide variety of content creators to share their video gaming, music, and other lifestyle activities with the world. Founded in 2011, Twitch started out as a spin–off of Justin.tv, a platform created by Justin Kan and Emmett Shear. Justin.tv focused on livestreaming video gaming content, with Twitch specializing in this activity after its launch.
Rapid growth soon followed. Within three months of its launch, Twitch had grown to over 1 million active users. This number rapidly climbed and by 2013, Twitch was the fourth–largest source of peak internet traffic in the United States. As its user base expanded, so did the platform‘s offerings and services.
Today, Twitch has grown to become the leading livestreaming platform for gamers and offers unparalleled opportunities for content creators. From high–profile esports tournaments to creative and variety streaming, Twitch offers a variety of monetization and engagement opportunities for its users. In addition, Twitch provides users with chat lobbies where viewers can interact with the streamers and fellow viewers. With a wide selection of video game genres, topics, and formats, Twitch continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the video game streaming space.
